GENERAL FUNCTION: Internews Network is currently seeking a Vice President for its Europe and Eurasia (E&E) portfolio. Based in Washington, DC; the Vice President will develop and administer Internews' media development programs in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. The Vice President will provide the strategic vision and technical leadership for Internews' program development in Europe and Eurasia and be responsible for improving Internews' competitiveness and maintaining excellence in implementation. The VP for Europe and Eurasia supervises the senior program managers of Internews in the portfolio- the Regional Directors (RDs), Regional Managers (RMs) and Country Directors (CDs), who in turn are responsible for the overall planning, program management, development, communications and oversight of finance and administrative functions of Internews' work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Strategic Vision for E&E Programs - Develop and maintain a keen understanding of the challenges and issues facing effective media and communications in the Europe and Eurasia region as well as how those trends compare to developments globally. Cultivate relationships with international partners in this field. - On an annual basis, prepare an annual workplans for the E&E portfolio, with an eye towards advancing Internews' overall mission and supporting growth. The workplan will be developed in support of the overall organizational strategic plan. - Make recommendations to the COO, the officers of Internews and/or the Internews Board regarding major policy decisions necessary for the effective implementation of programs in the portfolio. Program Management - Work with RDs, RMs and CDs to ensure all regional and global projects are meeting their goals and targets. - Work with RDs, RMs and CDs to ensure all projects produce timely and high-quality programmatic reports for funders. - Cultivate a senior program manager's team in the region that is able to share information, lessons learned and approaches between regions and programs globally. Ensure the senior program team meets on a regular basis, and communicates with the rest of the company on their work, priorities and challenges. - Manage a team of 3-4 program development professionals in DC as well as field staff in the Europe and Eurasia region. - Manage a global Human Rights programs including liaising with all other regional management units at Internews. - Working with HR, recruit and supervise Regional Managers and Country Directors and DC support staff. - Communicate field program needs, concerns, and ideas to administration, finance, and Human Resources departments, and vice versa. Finance and Administration - Working closely with the CFO, the VP for Administration and the VP for Finance, to develop the most effective and efficient policies to build donor compliance into program management. - Manage and serve as budget authority over the Department 23 budget, which is designed to provide senior management and development support to the region. Communications, Public Relations and Policy Advocacy - Serve as one of the senior spokespersons for Internews programs globally, including communication with the public and news media on program activities and accomplishments, as well as public relations. - Work closely with the communications and outreach teams to inform US and international audiences of major program activities in the E&E region. - Represent Internews at conferences and public events concerning media in the region. - Seek opportunities to advocate for policy reform or international attention on challenges facing media. Development and Refunding - Evaluate trends in USG/USAID policy and strategy for the region; devise funding strategies that respond to these trends and communicate these strategies both to the regional program management teams, as well as to senior Internews management and the Board. - Working with the development team, cultivate private funder relationships for programs in the E&E region. - Monitor the planning and preparation of major competitive bids in the region. - Advocate for priority programmatic investments with senior management. Supervisory Responsibilities The VP for Europe and Eurasia supervises all senior program managers within the E&E region as well as DC E&E support staff, including both the Regional Directors and the Global Program Directors. The VP for Europe and Eurasia is responsible for overall coordination of activities between Internews E&E field offices headquarters in Arcata, and corporate support offices in Washington DC. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. - Applicant Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS: - At least 5 years experience of management in international non-profit organizations, at least 10 years relevant industry and non-profit experience; - Media background, especially in new media or broadcast journalism or production-- strongly preferred; - Experience with grant management and funder relations. Experience working with the U.S. Agency for International Development and other USG agencies a major plus; - Ability to plan, set goals, monitor progress and evaluate results; - Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a flexible, dynamic environment; - Native English and fluent Russian strongly preferred, other regional languages an asset; - Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate; - Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening; - Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively; - Analytical and problem-solving ability; - Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member; - Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments; - Experience living and working in the E&E region strongly preferred; - Willingness to travel extensively, mainly to Internews operations overseas and to headquarters in Arcata, California. - Application instructions:
