Global Focus Aotearoa is a small, values based NGO that for many years was Aotearoa New Zealand’s specialist provider of independent information and education on global and development issues. The organisation, governed by a charitable trust, now administers the Global Focus Fund which was set up to build on this legacy and continue to support global education in Aotearoa New Zealand..
Our mission is ‘informing and educating people to take action for a just world’, to achieve our vision of ‘change for a just world’.
Our motto is based on the philosophy is that:
Information empowers; access to information is a fundamental human right. With accurate and comprehensive information people are able to make the best decisions about their own lives and how they engage with the world around them.
Education can develop skills, attitudes and values to bring about a more just and sustainable world. Global Education enables people to understand the links between their own lives and those of people throughout the world.
Action informed by quality information and globally relevant education will help create a just world where human rights are upheld and respected, poverty is no longer tolerated, and we all recognise the interconnectivity of our lives and the world that we live in.
Our work is underpinned by the following values:
